Vijay Awards 2009 : And the winners are...

And the winner is….

Sony Ericsson Favorite Hero award was bagged by Padmashree Dr. Kamalahaasan (Dasavatharam).

Nayantara won the Favorite Heroine award (Yaaradi Nee Mohini).

‘Vaaranam Aaiyram’ won the other three categories namely Favorite Film, Favorite Director Gawtham Vasudeva Menon and Samsung Favorite Song of the year ‘Anjala’ – Varanam Aaiyram.

The award winners in the 22 BEST categories were chosen by the eminent Jury members of UniverCell Vijay Awards 2008 – Yugi Sethu, Prathab Pothan, Madan and Lizzy Priyadarshan.

Surya won the Best Actor award. Simran won the Clear Best Supporting Actor Female for her excellent performance in the film ‘Varanam Aaiyaram’. Harris Jayaraj got the Whirlpool Best Music Director award for his composition. Playback Singer Hariharan won the award for his ‘Nenjukkul peithidium’ song and Lyricist Thamarai was awarded the Best Lyricist for the same song. Banu and Yogesh were awarded the Best Makeup artists for Vaaranam Aaiyaram.

Close to ‘Vaaranam Aayiram’, ‘Subramaniyapuram’ also bagged awards in five different categories.

It was awarded the LG Best Film award. Also Sasi Kumar was awarded the SRM Sivaji Ganesan Film Institute Best Director for his excellent direction. S. R.Kathir took home the award for Best Cinematographer. Raja Mohammed won the Best Editor award and Rajasekhar won the award in the Stunt category.

The much hyped film of 2008, Dhasavatharam was given away many awards. Best Comedian, Best Villian and Best Story Screenplay writer were bagged by Padmashree Dr. Kamalahaasan. Three individuals – Sameer Chanda, Prabhakaran and Thota Tharani were awarded the Best Art Directors who designed some special sets depicting various eras in the film.

Gautami Tadimalla was awarded the Best Costume Designer for Dhasavatharam.

Sneha won the Khazana Jewellery Best Actor Female for her performance in Privom Santhipom.

Volini Best New Comer Female was bagged by ‘Poo’ fame Parvati.

Bombay Jayashri won the Aachi Best Playback singer award for her ‘Yaaro manathilae’ song from the film Dhaam Dhoom.

Apart from the Favorite and Best categories, Special Awards were also given to the outstanding performers from the film industry.

Music Composer James Vasanthan was awarded with the ‘Best find of the year’ award.

Oscar award winner A. R. Rahman was given the most prestigious Chevalier Sivaji Ganesan Award for Excellence in Indian Cinema.

Dhanush was awarded the Entertainer of the year and the Best Crew award was bagged by Subramaniyapuram team.

Satyam Cinemas was awarded the Contribution to Tamil Cinema.
