Actress Lakshmi Rai, widely rumoured to be India's cricket captain Mahender Singh Dhoni's lover; the rumours took strong roots when the former called on the latter during India's Test match against Australia played at Chennai last year. Rai, however, denied all those sources of news and said that Dhoni was just a nice friend and that there's nothing more to it.

Latest Kollowood rumours link Rai with a Malayalee youth put up in an apartment in Chennai's posh Nungambakkam locality. As it turned out, he was getting many visitors every day, much to the inconvenience of many of the residents from the apartment. He was promptly asked to vacate the house but when he refused to do so, the house-owner forcibly threw his luggage and other things out. Rai immediately rushed to the scene on hearing the 'insult' heaped on the youth and using her influence, managed to take another apartment on rent within the same area.
