'Aachi'
Manorama, the Guinness record-holder for being the only actor in the
world to have featured in more than 1,000 movies, recently met the Tamil
Nadu chief minister and patron of the film industry, Kalaignar. The
veteran actress met Kalaignar to take up an issue in the public interest
and discussed the subject matter in detail with the latter.
Manorama had reportedly carried many 'press clippings' of news of the
ever-increasing number of divorce cases that have been milling up in
Family Courts in Chennai and other cities. "People tend to hide the
'truth' and marry off their impotent and HIV-infected grooms to
unsuspecting and hapless girls. It's always the girls' families which
get affected to a great extent, for they usually spend lakhs of rupees
on their daughters' marriage only to see it getting ruined by the wrong
choice of grooms," is the content of the petition that Manorama
submitted to the chief minister.
The petition submitted by the actress-par-excellence went on to say
that, "In order to mitigate the untold sufferings of thousands of
families of these helpless girls, the government should enact a law
stipulating that presenting a 'no objection certificate' from a RMP
stating that both the bride and groom had no contagious/sexually
transmitted diseases and are fit to lead normal familial lives is
mandatory for the marriage to be solemnized at the
temple/church/mosque/marriage halls."
