Jodi No.1 is Prem-Pooja

Jodi No. 1 came to a close on December 30, 2006. The show on Vijay TV began with eight celebrity couples; four real life and four reel life couples put their best foot forward; facing moments of high tension, jubilation and exhilaration over 13 weeks. And the winner of this phenomenal reality show is the popular reel life couple, Prem and Pooja.

On winning the title of Jodi No. 1, an ecstatic Prem says, "This show has certainly given me an individual identity and popularised my name by reaching out to millions of hearts. Am also very excited that I now have a couple of movie offers up my sleeve; Siva's 'Dhanam' along with Sangeeta and also a film by Sundar C. With a real life experience of this nature, I can confidently say that nothing is impossible when hard work and perseverance are in place. I would like to thank our choreographers who taught us like they were teaching little children."

Pooja is "very happy that we have been chosen as the Jodi No. 1 by the viewers; but even now I still can't believe it. The show has increased my self-confidence and helped me reach out to millions of hearts".

The viewers were given the power to judge their favourite jodi by voting for them across the various platforms i.e. IVR, SMS, televoting and online. Actor Dhanush along with the judges applauded the winner and handed over the prize money of Rs 10 lakh to the winning jodi.

In Week 50, Jodi No.1 garnered channel shares of 24.8 per cent against competition, claimed a spokesperson of Vijay TV; Jaya TV (1.4 per cent) and Raj TV (1.3 per cent) amongst the female audiences (source: TAM; Saturdays 2000 hrs-2125 hrs; CS ABC 15+F; Chennai).

The show has also received great response in Tamil Nadu with 22.2 per cent channel shares (Jaya TV – 2.3 per cent and Raj TV – 0.8 per cent) (source: TAM; Saturdays 2000 hrs-2125 hrs; CS ABC 15+F; Tamil Nadu). This dance reality show recorded its highest TVR of 15.85 in Week 46 (source: TAM; Saturdays 2000 hrs-2125 hrs; Chennai; CS ABC 15+F).

The three finalists Vijay Adhiraj-Rashana, Raghav-Preetha and Prem-Pooja performed for the last time in the grande finale on December 23, 2006. While Vijay Adhiraj-Rashana performed a thematic love story that enthralled the viewers, Raghav-Preetha enacted the 'jolly theives' theme in their own inimitable style with great chemistry. Prem-Pooja, one of the most favourite jodis, completely earned the appreciation of the audience with a variety of styles incorporated into their 'pirates' theme.

The show also witnessed sizzling dance performances by three hotties of the industry Ragasiya, Priyamani and Lakshmi Rai. And to add to the extravaganza, a special performance by Yogi B and the Natchathira Boys; a Tamil hip-hop band all the way from Malaysia, and a dance performance by the cast of the popular teen-soap Kanaa Kaanum Kaalangal.

The response received from the viewers has paved the way for another reality dance competition - Jodi No.1 Challenge - on January 5, 2007, at 8 p.m. This show will feature six popular jodis who would take on the challenge and shake a leg. Similar to its predecessor, the show is also a reality dance competition with each of the 6 jodis being trained by professionals. With only four rounds of performance and on-the-spot elimination, the teams take on their competitors on a one-on-one increasing the interest  levels. The show will be on every Friday-Saturday at 8 p.m. on Vijay.
