One of the most interesting
music shows on TV, Ragamalika, run by Jaya TV, has completed 200
episodes successfully.
The mega finals and the 200th
episode celebrations attracted a hall full of audience at the
Narada Gana Sabha, Chennai, recently.
A two-hour musical fiesta was
organised by Maximum Media, the production team of Ragamalika.
The distinguished chief guests
for the evening were the stalwarts of Indian music, M S
Viswanathan, S Janaki and T V Gopalakrishnan.
The session was enhanced by the
presence of singer P B Srinivas, dancer, Dr Padma Subrahmanyam,
Veena B Kannan, singer O S Arun, K V Prasad and many others who
were the encouraging guests at the function.
There was an enthusiastic
response from the audience for the rendition of all-time
favourite old film numbers by young talents. As it was lyricist
Kannadasan's birth anniversary, participants at the show sang
more than 10 of his songs as an expression of gratitude and
respect.
The programme was scheduled to
be a live competition for the finalists but it apparently turned
out to be just a show as the chief guests did not wish to
announce the prizes. When asked about this, M S Viswanathan
said, "All of them sang well and we are here as chief guests and
not judges."
Subhasri Thanikachalam, the
director, personally thanked Chennai Silks for being the
all-time sponsor for Ragamalika.
"Even the most popular music
show TVS 'Sa Re Ga ma', has had only 175 episodes with the same
sponsor. It is with pride we say that 36 playback singers have
evolved from this show," Subhasri said.
The chief guests rendered songs
as per audience request and also blessed the singers and the
orchestra team with mementoes.
