An international jury headed by Larry Gershman, chairman of the Emmy Committee, chose the awards from the total nominations. The awards presentation ceremony was held on Tuesday in KBS Hall in Seoul. This year’s event, timed to coincide with the BCWW (Broadcast Worldwide) conference, was noted for throwing a wider international net, with participation from India, Argentina, Ukraine, Jordan, Brazil, Germany and Belgium. A quick browse through the categories and the winners tells the true story of its pan global appeal and popularity (www.seouldrama.org).

GV Films chairman Mahadevan Ganesh said it all started a year-and-a-half-ago when GV announced its venture into live action 3D serial for television. This indeed raised innumerable eyebrows among the industry, press and the public at that time. Die-hard critics had almost written it off scorning the viability and enormity of such a mammoth venture, he added.

But in its own inimitable style, GV bounced back by telecasting Mayavi, a 26-Week-episode serial successfully on Jaya TV within nine months of undertaking production, said A Venkataramani, managing director.

Soon, GV followed it by taking Mayavi to Kerala over Kairali TV where it is currently on air. Then, came August 2007, SDA – Seoul Drama Awards 2007 – GV Films won the Jury’s Award for Excellence in Television Dramas of substance and creativity. The Korean Broadcasters Association invited GV Films on board to be a special participant at the BCWW (Broad Cast WorldWide) 2007, Aug 29-31, COEX, Seoul, Korea. At this Expo GV Films was bestowed with the honour of being one of the six participants to be invited from the global media companies to foster growth and cross-cultural content.

Mayavi’s quality of production, style, size and growing popularity has been attracting newer territories. Consequently, GV Films Limited has already finalised telecasting of Mayavi in Telugu with a leading channel and it is slated to go on air in October 2007, Ganesh said. There is much more in the offing for Mayavi in the near future. Negotiations are at advanced stages to telecast it in other languages like Marathi, Gujarati, Rajasthani, Bengali and Hindi over a leading all-India Channel, added Venkataramani.

As a direct result of this year’s award, Mayavi has attracted keen interest in 3D format from some of the Asian, European and Australian television channels to telecast Mayavi in their respective languages or with English sub-titles. In the BCWW, GV Films has effectively furthered the interest in 3D content and is currently in talks for 3D Content Production Services with a Swedish and Australian media houses besides a couple of Korean broadcasters.

While Mayavi is making waves in the global arena, GV Films is highly bullish on more content creation of substance for which it has already tied up with some of the leading regional, national and more importantly international television channels. With so much on the anvil, GV Films is expected to rake in big bucks and touch revenue of over Rs 50 crore in the coming year apart from its mainstay traditional business of film and theatricals, said V Ravee, its CEO.
