Jams and sauce from Chennai-based Megafoods Products Madras (P) Ltd are all set to hit the market in the US, Middle East, Africa and the UK, says its Managing Director Amit C
Vaishnev.
"We are in the processing of finalising deals with companies in Middle East and the US, and negotiations are also on with firms in South Africa and the UK," he adds.
The company, which has its factory in the Ambattur Industrial Estate, makes jams, including the Diet Sugar Free variety, tomato ketchup, green chilly sauce, soya bean sauce,
ready - to-eat products, syrups, squashes and pre-cooked concentrated paste, and hopes to get the certifications of ISO 9001:2000, HACCP and GMP by September this year.
"Our products are being recognised for quality, and soon we are going to step up our exports," says Amit, who is looking for tie-ups with FMCG marketing companies both for the domestic and export market.
He has invested over Rs seven crore in the company, and is satisfied with the R and D facility, on which alone more than Rs two crore has been spent. The company has gone in for production for private labels like Foodworld (six variants of fruit jams), while a brand 'Sanctum' would be out for US-based Shantha Marine Biotechnologies (P) Ltd, soya bean sauce for Ushodaya Enterprises Ltd (Priya) and Elite brand of products for Elite group of
Kerala.
From August 1, the company provides door delivery of its products in Chennai, and this would be extended to Madurai, Tiruchirapalli and Coimbatore later, Amit said.
Megafoods hopes to corner ten per cent of the Rs 550 crore Indian market in this category by the tenth year of its operations. It claims to have a particularly bright future in the US, as even multi-national firms are grappling with the issue of cancerous contaminants, while the soya sauce used by Megafoods does not have such contaminants at all, Amit adds.
The company offers products in its own brands, Snacky, for institutional packs and Wonup for retail packs. The products for private labels would continue and would stabilise at around 30 to 35 per cent of the company's overall business, he added.
This Chennai-based company is on the fast track.
