Chennaivasis are all geared up -- the annual Leather Fair is going to hit the town soon! But the excitement doesn't stop with the Leather Fair. It's the Italian Food Fest at the Taj Connemara that is adding to the ripples of excitement. Hosted annually to coincide with the popular Leather Fair, the Italian Food Fest will be on at the Verendah in Taj Connemara, between Jan 29 and Feb 5.

According to R Pasupathy, General Manager, Taj Connemara, "The annual Leather Fair is one of the most popular events of international caliber that is hosted in the city. The fair attracts a huge crowd, not just locally but also from overseas, especially from the European countries. A sizeable part of the participants are Italians."

Though the fair has shifted venue several times over the years, we observed that every year, no matter where the fair was held, a lot of visitors wound their way to the Taj Connemara for the Italian cuisine. Encouraged by the immensely positive response we received, we decided to make it an annual event to coincide with the Fair. And so, the Italian Food Fest has been a traditional affair at the hotel for over five years now."

The restaurant has been spruced up to give it a la Italy look. The Leaning Tower of Pisa, the Kriss Kross flags, the signboards all convey the Italian flavour strongly. However, it's the exclusive and interesting menu whipped up by Chef Vijayan and team that is the focus of the fest. Comprising a host of soups, pastas, lasagnas and typical Italian desserts, the menu promises to cater not just to the visiting Italians but the local populace as well.

Supreme di Pollo Al Cacciatora (sauté chicken with fresh mushroom and tomato), Lasagne Fruiti Di Mer (Seafood Lasagne), Tiramisu, Souffle Di Almonde (Desserts) are a few of the special highlights featuring on the menu. And to make the experience truly enjoyable, a three-member Filipino band, D-Line, will belt out some foot tapping numbers for the guests.
