Shanghai Club at Chola Sheraton celebrates 'Arhat' the vegetarian cuisine, recipes created for Buddhist monks of Yorg carefully recreated to give you a taste of China that is simply divine. The root meaning of the word 'Arhat' is 'he deserves'.
Typically people all over the world are deviating from the mainstream of gorging on non-vegetarian food. Arhat brings to you a distinct yet delicious repertoire of Chinese vegetarian cuisine. This distinct cuisine has had a pervading effect all over China. Dozens of vegetarian restaurants have sprung up across the country serving vegetarian food which not long ago was restricted to the Buddhist monks.
One of the most popular dishes on the menu is the Luohan Zhai -- Black and Button Mushroom with vegetables -- a connoisseur's delight so to speak. Then there is also Shuizhu Tofu served in Sichuan Pepper sauce. Tofu, more popularly referred to as bean curd, was considered monk food served in the Buddhist temples.
Some of the other popular dishes on the menu are the Quinchao Xiaobai Cai -- stir fried bokchoi (Chinese Cabbage) served with chilli and the Yuxiang Sigua -- Braised ridge gourd served with mushrooms in Soya Sauce Beijing Style.
Come whet your appetite with some of China's incredibly delicious vegetarian food at the
Shanghai Club between January 18 and 26. Divinity is no longer the domain of monks and temples.
