Andhra Food Fest at Malgudi

The Andhra food festival at Malgudi Restaurant, Savera Hotel was inaugurated on March 5, 2004, with much fun and fanfare in the presence of celebrities like all-time favourite singer S P Balasubramaniam and Telugu film star of yesteryears, Jayachitra. The ambience was festive with the feel of Andhra countryside everywhere.

The native secrets from the Andhra cuisine will be the main attraction at the dinner buffet from 1900 hrs onwards till 14th March. Guests can also partake in traditional games organized by Kreeda. A 'kili josiyakaran' (fortune teller) with his 'pachai kili' (green parrot), greets you at the entrance of Malgudi.
To complete the picture of the Andhra Food Festival, the premises also houses a traditional art and craft show like ‘Kondapalli Dolls & Kalamkari Prints’ and shadow leather puppet.

At the fest, one can enjoy the rich delicacies from Rayalaseema, Circar and Telengana districts of Andhra Pradesh, prepared by master chefs specially brought in for the occasion to retain the flavour and authenticity. To add to the flavour, seasonal herbs, native spices and a special menu have been arranged for a complete experience of the exotic cuisine of Andhra at the Malgudi Restaurant.

The food fete would include exotic, authentic, hot culinary treats like the Guntur Mulakadala Soup, Gutti Vankaya Masala, Gongura Kodi Mamsam Iguru, Circar Korameenu Cheppa Pulusu, Circar Royyala Vepudu, Telangana Pottelu Mamsam Pulav, Telangana Peethala Pulusu, Rayalaseema Naatu Kodi Pulav and Rayalaseema Puttagodugula Koora.

Further, one could bond the family relationship with traditional games by Kreeda – ‘Ashtaa Chemaa, Dahdi, Puli – Meka, Chintha Ginjallu Aataa, Vamanaguntulu, Gavalu Aataa’. As part of the food festival, there would be a display of traditional arts and craft show like ‘Kondapalli Dolls & Kalamkari Prints’ and best of Telugu film songs by V are One Bhanumatis Light Music troupe. The food fete will also include ‘Thol Bommalattam’, a shadow leather puppet show.

One can also mingle and dine with Tollywood stars, a twinkle from the tinsel land everyday to grace the occasion.

The Malgudi restaurant operates in Chennai and Hyderabad and recently opened a centre in Bangalore. The Shyam Group plans to take this brand globally to many more places offering the best of southern (Indian) cuisine to food lovers.

The restaurant Malgudi has derived its name from the evergreen book, 'Malgudi Days' and was inaugurated by R K Narayan, the eminent author who wrote 'Malgudi Days'.
