Le Royal Meridien,
Chennai, continues with the relentless spirit bringing to Chennai some of the most exotic cultural fests. This time the scene is set for the rich cultural heritage of Myanmar, which is to be displayed through a spectacular display of traditional performing arts and authentic Myanmar cuisine. This event is organised in association with the Ministry of Tourism - Government of Myanmar, Red Apple and Indian Airlines.
From March 7 to 16, Cilantro the multi-cuisine international restaurant at Le Royal Meridien will play host to the first ever Myanmar Cultural Extravaganza. The mysteries of Myanmar culture will be unravelled during this extravaganza, which will showcase live on stage performance from Myanmar's traditional well-sculpted dancers, puppet artiste, leg ball dancers and Myanmar cuisine.
The festival is a celebration of Myanmar's unique culture and authentic cuisine with a promise to bring to life the heart, soul and palette of the "Land of Golden Pagodas', which continues to remain one of the most mysterious and undiscovered destinations in the world even today.
The Myanmar Cuisine: A typical Myanmar meal has lots of rice with meat or fish accompanied with soup, cooked vegetable, salads or raw vegetables and crisps of greens with a strong relish to dip into. Myanmar also offers a whole range of vegetarian food.
Myanmar food is all about eating together as the cool of evening falls. This cuisine will be prepared under the presence of lady master chefs - Daw Khin Hnin Aye, Daw San Yi and Daw Mimi Aung have been specially flown in from Myanmar for this festival.
From dishes like Yangone chicken curry, Pazun Hin - a prawn curry, Wet Thane Hin - a pork curry to the world famous Nga Myin Se Pyan Hin (butterfish curry), the Myanmari cuisine, will be made available during the festival. Add to this Penilayhincho (lentil soup) to Mhokazunywetkyaw (stir fried water spinach with mushroom) to Pekrayzanthoke (glass noodle salad) the authentic dishes are mouth watering, unique and world class.
Dr Palani G Periasamy Chairman, Le Royal Meridien -
Chennai, says, "This is not merely a food festival, it is a complete cultural showcase. Burmese cuisine has not really been exposed in
Chennai, and this is a brilliant opportunity to showcase the entire cuisine and educate the Indian taste buds. Since food is eventually a derivative of culture, and since the concept of our restaurant 'Cilantro' is a live experience, the festival therefore features Burmese traditional dance performances and puppet shows put up by troops that have been especially flown down from Myanmar. We are proud to present this cultural-fare-cum festival in our hotel for the first time in
Chennai."
In a unique endeavour to promote tourism through food, Red Apple Travel (P) Ltd., (RAT) the recently appointed tourism representatives of Myanmar in India, have tied up with Le Meridien Hotels and Resorts India to kick off a series of Burmese cultural festivals in six different cities of India. It started with Le Meridien Mumbai on January 18, and this cultural extravaganza on its entourage has arrived in Chennai after successful events in
Pune, Kochi and Bangalore.
