What is CPR ?
Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation is the basic life support measure applied when a parson's heart and lung
actions have stopped.
It artificially oxygenates and circulates blood in a person when the natural heart action & breathing have stopped. This
is
accomplished by providing chest compressions & ventilations.
"You Can"
When you take a course in CPR you will be in a better position to help if you encounter someone who has had a cardiac arrest (heart attack). You will be taught how to:
-
Recognise a cardiac arrest.
-
Check for respiration.
-
Find and take a pulse.
-
How to establish and maintain an open airway.
-
Where the compression site is on the chest.
-
How to position your hands for compressions.
-
How to deliver compressions and ventilations to the patient.
-
You will also be instructed on the patient recovery position.
Remember, once you find a person unresponsive, activate the emergency services now! Before you do any further assessment or CPR, call your local emergency number.
Never initiate CPR on a person who is breathing and has a pulse beat.
