Staeta soya milk
Staeta Soya Milk, a product of ProSoya Foods (India) Pvt Ltd, the Indian affiliate of ProSoya Inc., Canada, now comes in five attractive and tasty flavours --
chocolate, kesar pista, malt, original and natural.
The president of ProSoya Foods, Canada-based Rashmi Rekha, was in Chennai the other day to launch the new products made by the Indian company at its plant in Bhopal, and said the response in Tamil Nadu was highly encouraging as the people here were more
health-conscious than in many other centres of India.
The innovators and world leaders in soy milk technology, which once faced virtual rejection from the Indian market, have made a dramatic comeback and the products are now being widely accepted. ProSoya Foods test-launched its cholesterol-free and no beany taste, Staeta soy milk in January in five flavours especially adapted to the Indian palate.
Rashmi pointed out, "Health awareness in India is phenomenal and the soy market is expected to grow at a rate of 200 per cent per annum."
"About 50 to 60 per cent of the Indian population is lactose intolerant and a large number of the population is vegetarian to whom soy milk can provide the alternative for a high-protein, low-calorie nutritional supplement."
"Our Indian production plant has a capacity of 20 million litres and we use only about 5 per cent of it," but with a whole lot of new flavours planned and the proposal for launch of soy milk powder, the company is poised for rapid growth, says
Rashmi.
The 'airless cold grinding' ProSoya technology is patent-protected, and is in use in over 40 countries around the world. This technology has been used to establish best-selling brands in the US and Canada. This includes So Nice in Canada and Silk in the US. This technology has helped improve the taste and flavour of the products, overcoming the initial block over their smell and
flavour.
The speciality of this technology is the extremely palatable soy milk that it produces from soy beans without the use of any chemicals, and without the need for carbohydrate -loading to mask its taste. Soy milk made by ProSoya process has a clean taste, soft and smooth texture and an appealing mouth feel, Rashmi said. Besides, the process protects and retains all the nutrients present in soy, especially the proteins and
isoflavones.
M R Subramaniam, sales manager, said the products were now selling well at 20 centres in the country and would do well in Tamil Nadu too judging from the market survey and the initial launch response. The company hoped to touch a gross revenue of Rs 200 crore in three to four years.
