Free cancer centre
The Coimbatore-based Vasantha Memorial Trust will launch its Chennai centre for free cancer assistance on February 19.
This is a trust for cancer cure and care, based at G-4 Anugraha Apartments, Near Manis Theatre, Peelamedu, Coimbatore 641 004. Ph 0422 - 2578026, 2629981, 98422 89370.
The Vasantha Memorial Trust sponsors the treatment of poor cancer patients and conducts detection camps and, more importantly, creates awareness about the disease. Till date, 170 patients have been sponsored, 65 detection camps held and 6,000 persons screened.
There have been a number of requests for help from Chennai. In order to render assistance to the cancer-affected in Chennai, Vasantha Memorial Trust, with the support of G K R Charities (Mumbai and Chennai), is set to start operations in
Chennai.
For the first three months, counselling, clarifications and medical consultations will be provided by doctors and other qualified personnel during the weekends. Depending upon the response, these facilities will be made available more frequently.
The trust requests volunteers to join with them and provide service to the poor and needy.
The launch of the centre will take place on February 19 at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mylapore. This will be followed by a Heart for Cancer Carnatic Nite with Ganesh-Kumaresh rendering a violin concert.
The formal inauguration will take place on Sunday, February 20, at Appavoo Apartments, 1/2, Venus Colony, IX Street, Alwarpet, Chennai - 600 018.
