Emcure Pharma signs MoU with Actavis
Emcure Pharmaceutical Ltd, one of India's leading and fast growing pharmaceutical companies, and Actavis Pharma of Iceland signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for close cooperation between the two companies for supply of drugs to Russia and CIS countries. Emcure Pharmaceuticals and Actavis Pharma also formally announced of the understanding reached between Actavis and Emcure for supply of Anti Retroviral (ARV) drugs used against HIVIAIDs, to various parts of the world.
A senior delegation, led by Satish Mehta, CEO, Emcure Pharmaceuticals Ltd, was in Reyklavic, Iceland, recently on the occasion of the state visit of A P J Abdul Kalam, President of India, to Iceland. Dr Kalam and President, Dr Olafur Ragnar Grimsson of Iceland, laid the cornerstone of a new Actavis building at the headquarters of the company, which will house the company's development centre, in the presence of senior officials from Actavis Pharma and Emcure Pharmaceuticals.
During the ceremony, Robert Wessman, CEO & president, Actavis Pharma, made a formal announcement of the understanding reached between Actavis and Emcure Pharmaceuticals Ltd for supply of ARV drugs used against HIV/AIDS to various parts of the world. An MoU was also signed for the cooperation between the two companies for supply of drugs to Russia and CIS countries. This is in addition to the existing collaboration between the two companies for supply of generic drugs to the regulated markets.
Commenting on the occasion, Satish Mehta, CEO, Emcure Pharmaceuticals Ltd, said, "This collaboration with Actavis enhances the scope of projects jointly handled and gets us excellent reach in both regulated and semi-regulated markets for ARVs and other products. Emcure is adequately geared to support this through its vertically integrated world class infrastructure and facilities."
In February 2005, the Dr Grimmson visited Pune and inaugurated Emcure's solid dosages facility at Hinjwadi. The Presidents of India and Iceland have taken a keen interest in the battle against AIDS and they wholeheartedly support this collaborative venture, as both stated in their addresses on this occasion.
