Samudhaaya Foundation award for WIA
The Samudhaaya Foundation, a charitable trust formed by Carnatic musician Sudha Ragunathan, presented the Saadhana Award for Excellence to the Adyar Cancer Institute (WIA), at a function in Chennai recently. Dr V Shanta, chairperson of the institute, who received the award from Sudha Ragunathan, was also presented with a cheque for Rs 10 lakh raised by the foundation towards treatment of children suffering from cancer.
Speaking at the function held at the Narada Gana Sabha, Sudha recalled that her guru, M L Vasanthakumari, died of cancer. The foundation had therefore taken up the cause of cancer treatment this year.
Film actor Vivek and dramatist S Varadharajan lauded the work of the foundation in taking up social causes.
Replying to the felicitations, Dr Shanta said the award really went to the institute's team of dedicated doctors, nurses and support staff who treated patients with compassion.
Film actor and dancer Vineeth presented a dance programme, 'Bharatanrityam' while Varadarajan and his troupe staged a play 'Mega Serial'. This was followed by a programme of Sampradhaya Bhajans by Srivanchiyam
Muralidharan.
