Complicated cardiac surgery performed
Specialists of a private super-speciality hospital in Chennai have performed a complicated cardiac surgery on a 61-year-old patient with coronal artery - main pulmonary artery fistula, said to be a very rare heart condition.
The five-member specialist doctors team of the Harvey Super Specialities Hospital operated successfully on patient Deivanai who had a heart failure, uncontrolled diabetes and mild renal failure, according to a press release.
Deivanai was diagnosed with this very rare condition in which the main coronary artery, supplying blood to the heart muscle, is connected by abnormal channels to the main lung artery, which led to lung congestion due to left to right shunting and heart failure.
This heart condition usually requires heart-lung machine and is a very complex procedure.
However, the team of specialists resorted to an 'off pump' technique of 'fistula closure by imbrication and plication' with utmost safety, the release said.
The patient has recovered from the heart ailment, the release added. (Agencies)
