Pammal Sankara Eye Hospital camps
During this week in October (8 to 15), 2006, 13 eye camps were conducted by Sankara Eye Hospital, Pammal, in Tamil Nadu and Andhra
Pradesh.
According to a note from S Visvanathan, secretary of the hospital, of the 13 camps, in Tamil Nadu, five were conducted in Kancheepuram, two in Tiruvallur and one camp in Chennai. Four camps were held in Chittoor, Andhra
Pradesh.
In all, 1,395 persons were screened in the camps, of which 325 were selected for free cataract surgery with intra-ocular lens
(IOL.).
For those who can afford to have the surgery, the hospital performs cataract surgery with imported IOL, says Visvanathan. During their stay in the hospital, the patients and their attendants are provided with coffee, breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The hospital package is Rs 5,000 for stay, food and surgery. It is only Rs 4,000 for day care. The package for cataract surgery by phacoemulsification is Rs 9,000.
