 Lifeline Multi Speciality Hospital, Perungudi,
Chennai, has launched the 'Lifeline Heart Foundation' catering to
the economically weaker sections among children requiring cardio
vascular treatment and care.
The Lifeline Heart Foundation’s first mission -
Save Heart, Save Child - has been undertaken to treat complex
paediatric cardio vascular diseases at subsidised costs to
socio-economically weaker children who require medical intervention
and treatment.
The group marked the beginning of an
Indo–American venture with a workshop and CME on surgery for complex
heart disease in Children.
 Dr N Kapadia, chief cardiac surgeon of Lifeline,
and Dr Russo, visiting cardiac surgeon from University Hospital,
Missouri, US, together performed eight surgeries, some of them free
of cost and some at 1/5th the cost. This has been
made possible because of generous donations from Gift of Life
International (GOLI).
Lifeline, with the help of GOLI, has tied up
with the University of Missouri to conduct such programmes on a
regular basis. This will facilitate exchange of intellectual
scientific knowledge for the training of doctors and paramedical
staff.
Dr R Ravi Kumar, chief cardiologist, said, "A
separate Paediatric Cardiology Department will be dedicated in
Lifeline Hospital, Perungudi, to fulfil the mission of 'Save
Heart, Save Child'. On the occasion, Dr J S
Rajkumar, chairman, Lifeline Group of Hospitals, and Dr P Russo
exchanged an MoU for academic interaction, in the presence of the
chief guest, US Consul General David T Hopper, who inaugurated the
foundation, guest of honour Kavignar Kanimozhi Karunanidhi, MP, S R
Raja, MLA, special guest. Lifeline Multi
Speciality Hospital, a 225-bed hospital at Perungudi, Chennai,
offers medical care and consultation with over 50 specialists and
super specialists in various disciplines.
