The doctor-parents of 15-year-old
Dhileepan Raj, who
allegedly performed a caesarean section at the family-run
maternity hospital at Manapparai, near Tiruchi, recently, have
been taken into police custody.
Dr K Murugesan and his wife, Dr Gandhimathi,
were detained at the Valanadu police station by Manapparai
police on the orders of district collector Ashish Vachhani.
The RDO probe ordered into the caesarean
section, allegedly performed by the boy, a class-10 student, was
over and the report submitted to the collector.
The collector had said appropriate action
would be taken after studying the report and consultations with
medical and legal experts, and informal interactions with the
investigation team.
However, details of the report would not be
disclosed to the media or the public and only the decision taken
will be made known.
The incident, which created a flutter, came
to light at last month's meeting of the Manapparai unit of the
Indian Medical Association (IMA), where Murugesan, a surgeon,
and Gandhimathi, a gynaecologist, are said to have screened the
video of their son performing the surgery.
Dr Murugesan is now claiming that he
performed the surgery while his son watched.
Coming down heavily on Dr Murugesan, the
Tamil Nadu branch of the IMA, has adopted a resolution seeking
disciplinary action against him. (Agencies)
