Prosopis juliflora (Velikaruvel) 19.8%

Borassus flabellifer (Panai Maram) 9.2%

Cassia siamea (Manjakkonai) 7.1%

Feronia elephantum (Vilampazlem) - 5.9%

Others - 24.5%

The above data represents the result of continuous pollen monitoring conducted between May 18 and May 24. The monitoring is done by exposing adhesive coated glass cylinder in the Vertical Cylinder Trap for a period of 24 hours, installed at a height of 15 metres in 5 different zones (Anna Nagar, Gandhi Mandpaam, Royapettah, Villivakkam and Washermenpet) in the city of Chennai. The results are presented as mean of all five sites. Though the atmosphere of Chennai consists of a large number of pollen types only a few are represented in the data according to their dominance. The report shows the predominance of the pollen of Cocos nucifera, Prosopis juliflora, Borassus flabellifer, Cassia siamea and Feronia elephantum in that order.
