The above data represents the result of continuous pollen monitoring conducted between June 15 and June 21. The monitoring is done by exposing adhesive coated glass cylinder in the Vertical Cylinder Trap for a period of 24 hours, installed at a height of 15 meters in 5 different zones (Anna Nagar, Gandhi Mandapam, Royapettah, Villivakkam and Washermenpet) in the city of Chennai. The results are presented as mean of all the five sites. Though the atmosphere of Chennai consists of a large number of pollen types, only a few are represented in the data according to their dominance. The report shows the predominance of the pollens of Eucalyptus tereticornis, Cocos nucifera, Parthenium hysterophorus, Poaceae and Azadirachta indica, in that order. The pollen of Eucalyptus tereticornis has dominated the atmosphere of Chennai this week with a contribution of 24.71%. The second position was occupied by Cocos nucifera that was in the first position for the past five weeks and contributed 21.72% to the total. This was followed by Parthenium hysterophorus and Poaceae with contributions of 12% and 10.5% respectively. The other pollen types contributed around 22.84%. A total of 17 pollen types were recorded.
