Typha angustata

The above data represents the result of continuous pollen monitoring conducted between July 13 and July 19. The monitoring is done by exposing adhesive coated glass cylinder in the Vertical Cylinder Trap for a period of 24 hours, installed at a height of 15 meters in 5 different zones (Anna Nagar, Gandhi Mandapam, Royapettah, Villivakkam and Washermenpet) in the city of Chennai. The results are presented as mean of all five sites. Though the atmosphere of Chennai consists of a large number of pollen types only a few are represented in the data according to their dominance. The report shows the predominance of the pollen of Cocos nucifera, Tamarindus indica, Parthenium hysterophorus, Prosopis juliflora, Cassia siamea and Typha angustata in that order.

The pollen grains of Cocos nucifera have been dominating the atmosphere of Chennai city continuously. It has contributed around 33% to the total.
