Chennai Pollen Watch
This week's report shows the predominance of Feronia elephantum (Vilampazham), Cocos nucifera (Thennai), Azadirachta indica (Vembu), Proposis juliflora (Velikaruvel), Amarantaceae and Casuarina equisetifolia (Savukku) in that order. The pollen grains of Feronia elephantum continued to dominate the atmosphere of Chennai. Whereas its contribution was lower (31.7%) when compared to the previous week (59.2%). The pollen grains of Cocos nudifera (15.7%) moved to the second position from its third position, the previous week. The pollen grains of Azadirachta indica and Proposis juliflora occupied third and fourth position with contributions of 12.6% and 11.9% respectively. The pollen grains of the family Amarnthaceae (4.7%) and Casuarina equisetifolia (4.4%) are the other significant contributors to the total. The other pollen types contributed around 18.8%. A total of 31 different pollen types were identified.
