The pollen grains of Feronia elephantum
The figure represents the results of continuous pollen monitoring conducted between March 23 and 29. The monitoring is done by exposing adhesive coated glass cylinder in the Vertical Cylinder Trap for a period of 24 hours, installed at a height of 15 metres in 5 different zones (Anna Nagar), Gandhi Mandapam, Royapettah, Villivakkam and Washermenpet) in the city of Chennai. The results are presented as mean of all five sites. Though the atmosphere of Chennai consists of a large number of pollen types only a few are represented in the figure according to their dominance. This week's report shows the predominance of Feronia elephantum (Vilampazham), Azadirachta indica (Vembu), Prosopis juliflora (Velikaruvel), Cocos nucifera (Thennai) Parthenium hysterophorus (Parthenium) and members of Poaceae in that order. The pollen grains of Feronia elephantum continues to dominate the atmosphere of Chennai continuously for the past three weeks. Its contribution was the same as on the previous week (31.7%).
