Radio alert for heart attacks
The test, developed by scientists at Imperial College, London and Cambridge University, helps spot high-risk patients early so that treatment can be arranged. The idea is to remove the need for invasive tests such as angiography, claim the inventors. Called metabonomics, all that the technique requires is a few drops of blood. In small-scale trials, it matched the accuracy of a full angiography test in 95 per cent of cases - and predicted the severity of the heart disease in 80 per cent.
