Apollo Evening Clinic

Apollo Hospitals, Asia's largest healthcare service provider, has launched an Evening Clinic at Chennai, which, it claims, is the first-of-its-kind in the country.

Its Managing Director Preetha Reddy said that the '5 to 9' clinic, located in the Apollo Sindoori Complex off Greames Road in Chennai, inaugurated on September 3, was aimed at office-goers. A '5 to 9' clinic for the '9 to 5' office-goers, was how she put it.

Mallika Srinivasan, Director, TAFE, who inaugurated the Evening Clinic, said the scheme would come as a boon to corporates and members of their families, as it offered a comprehensive healthcare solution after work hours.

George Eapen, CEO, Apollo Hospitals, said, "Globally the focus of healthcare is shifting. Lifestyle disorders are fast gaining importance over traditional ailments. Apollo was one of the pioneers to spearhead this shift in focus. The six clinics at the Evening Clinic will specialise in providing preventive healthcare for specific lifestyle ailments."

The clinic has been set up with an investment of Rs 20 lakh, mainly on equipment. Senior doctors of the group were present at the inauguration.

The Evening Clinic is comprised of six different specialties namely, Geriatrics Clinic, Adolescence Clinic, Back Clinic, Breast Clinic, Aesthetic Clinic and Diabetes Clinic, she said.

"The core purpose of the clinic is convenience. We kept in mind the target group, the corporate executives, and tried to make healthcare more accessible for them and their families. Work timings often clash with doctors' consultation hours, leading to a neglect of nagging health problems. We hope the Evening Clinic will be an answer to their problems and lead the way to healthier living", Preetha Reddy added.

The special service will start from the moment the patient arrives at the facility, right from valet parking. The floor manager will assist patients with registration, collate preliminary case history and facilitate an appointment with the doctor. Refreshments will be served while the patients are in the waiting area!

Dr Hegde, who will be in charge of the Back Clinic, said chronic back ailments seem to be one of the most overwhelming medical problems of the present day. The Apollo Back Clinic has identified corporate executives along with IT professionals to be the primary targets for the clinic, besides geriatrics, housewives and sports personalities, he added.

Dr Shivram Bharadwaj, the Aesthetic Clinic consultant, said, "Aesthetic surgery is no longer seen as applicable only to the rich and the famous. It has far-reaching implications in terms of self-esteem and confidence. Cosmetic surgery can correct birth or other disorders which will otherwise definitely usher in social stigma. This clinic puts aesthetic surgery within the reach of the common man."

The Adolescence Clinic will deal with counselling for the youth, particularly the problems relating to growing up, examination phobia, obesity and depression, said Dr Yamuna.

Preetha Reddy said all good things had commenced in Chennai. That was why Apollo had launched the Evening Clinic in this city. The programme would be extended to Delhi and Hyderabad later. The hospital would also consider extending the working hours beyond 2100 hrs in case corporate executives wanted it as many of them had to work till late in the evening, she said.

The hospital would also consider adding more clinics to the evening division like cancer and migraine wings, based on demand, Preetha Reddy added.
