Breast Cancer Awareness Programme
The Breast Clinic, under the umbrella of the recently launched Apollo Evening Clinic, has designed a series of initiatives to increase awareness of breast cancer, among women. The primary objective of these initiatives is to drive home the fact that early detection of breast cancer can lead to a cure.
Speaking on the launch of programme, Ms. Suneeta Reddy, Director Finance, Apollo Hospitals, said, We at Apollo have been continuously aiming at providing the best of health care services to all. And the first step towards this is to educate people and increase their awareness about various ailments and diseases. At Apollo, we have initiated various programmes to increase awareness about various health care issues. The Apollo Breast Cancer Awareness Programme, is one of these. The medical fraternity has confirmed that early detection can lead to a cure in the case of various ailments , and this is what we would like to emphasise through this programme. As a part of the programme, The Breast Clinic will offer specialised screening and consultations on breast cancer to all women for a minimal fee of Rs. 150/-. Women can avail of this specialised service between 5 pm to 9 pm at the clinic. The screening would provide an opportunity to women to walk in with all their queries on breast cancer and walk out with answers and a specialised check up. Also during the programme, Apollo Hospitals will provide a 50% discount on the mammograms conducted at the Breast Clinic. Other initiatives under The Breast Cancer Awareness Programme include addressing seminars and various womens' forums to educate women about the benefits of early detection, techniques of self check-ups and other important aspects of breast cancer. Informative posters have been designed to enable women to read more about the cancer. These posters would be displayed at various outlets, such as colleges, corporates, within hospitals, etc. Handbills, informing about the program will be distributed among various corporate women and other working women segments. Dr. Selvi Radhakrishnan, Specialist, Breast Cancer, Apollo Hospitals, said, Today, breast cancer is the second most common cancer among women in India. In India around 50% of women become aware that they have cancer only at a very late stage when not much can be done. The incidence of breast cancer is more common among urban Indian women, especially those from the higher socio-income group. It has been noted, worldwide, that lack of awareness prevents early detection and cure. Our programme is designed to increase the awareness among women of all age groups. The Apollo Breast Cancer Programme will involve a panel of gynaecologists from Apollo Hospitals to provide consultation to all those who walk in.
