Rare surgery at RIGID Hospitals

Dr J S Rajkumar, Laparoscopic surgeon, RIGID Hospitals, successfully performed a laparoscopic retroperitoneoscopic nephrectomy (removal of the damaged kidney using a laparoscope) on Mrs. C.G at RIGID Hospitals recently.

Mrs. C.G had a hysterectomy done followed by complications and was suffering for the last three years. She had undergone five operations elsewhere but was still suffering from an obstructed and infected kidney. Hence, this operation.

According to Dr. Rajkumar, “The rarity of this case is that the anterior approach, (from the front) which is the regular one, could not be used, as Mrs. C.G had multiple other procedures already. Therefore, the back (posterior) approach was used, deploying a balloon to create a space from the skin to the kidney. She is doing very well and this patient’s three-year problem has come to an end."

Dr. Phaniraj, Orthopaedic surgeon, treated another patient, Amul Mary 55 years, with undiagnosed abdominal pain. Investigations and C.T Scan done at Life Line Cliniq, revealed that the abdominal pain was because of tuberculosis of the spine which had formed an abscess. The removal of pus and tuberculosis bone is a major procedure, and this was avoided by an endoscopic approach, through which the pus was released and the tuberculosis tissues were scraped out. This has resulted in tremendous pain relief and quality of life for the patient, and with the usage of anti- tuberculosis drugs she should be cured of the disease, said the doctors.

RIGID Hospitals functioning at New Avadi Road is a Multi-Specialty corporate Hospital. The hospital performs 20 % of the treatment free and 30 % at subsidised rates.
