Stress Management with Yoga

People are becoming aware that most imbalances in body and mind occur due to their inability to release stress. Lack of concentration, restlessness, fatigue and sleeplessness are some of the common signs of stress. Stress has, unfortunately become synonymous with our modern lifestyle.

Though most people associate stress with their jobs, it could be also be caused by personal relationship problems. Doctors are now attributing everything from minor headaches to organ failures to stress. It is no wonder that people are looking out for ways to manage if not eliminate stress in their lives.

Arkaya Awareness Centre offers an effective program to alleviate stress. Maitreyi, who runs this outstanding organisation, has designed a unique stress management workshop that is based on Yoga. She says that Yoga is the world’s most ancient and comprehensive science and art of Self Management and Self Discovery. Yoga refines and energises the body, mind and emotions. Through her stress management course that uses simple but effective methods, Maitreyi has helped hundreds of people to restore a balance in their lives.

Attending one of her recent one-day workshops at GRT hotel was a real eye-opener. According to Maitreyi, stress is not restricted to any particular age group or occupation. She claims that everyone can pick up skills and inculcate one’s consciousness to minimise stress. At her workshop, Maitreyi explains how we accumulate stress in our mind, body and emotions. She teaches how to optimise energy in our system through body movements, emotional catharsis and by tapping the power of the mind.

She has devised an efficient method that not only relieves stress but also prevents stress. Awareness of Body, Emotions and Mind as well as self-acceptance can help us enjoy our own life rather than seek an escape. The course helps one to understand the self better through a journey inwards. The secret to health and happiness remains within us, she says. Through precise and sound reasoning, she helps one to move away from old patterns, recreate one’s life and move towards one’s highest planning.

Stress management means optimising one’s energy levels. Yoga re-balances the system, which has taken the toll of years of neglect. Interestingly, Maitreyi does not accept the common perception that doing yoga might dull a person. Instead, she declares that by balancing your personality, yoga will make one more effective. It will remove the negative effects of aggression if one is overtly aggressive. On the other hand, if a person is too submissive, yoga will make him/her strong and assertive.

‘3-M Module’, her stress management course for corporate houses is probably the best available in town. The Ms stand for – Minding the Body, Mending the Mind and Managing Moods. She regularly conducts in-house courses for some of the leading companies such as Satyam, CTS, Citicorp, United India Assurance and Standard Charted Bank. She has conducted a series of 16 workshops for Madras Management Association.

For individuals Maitreyi conducts regular classes on Yoga, Reiki and Stress management. Contact Arkaya Awareness Centre on phone 5214 4626 or email arkaya11@hotmail.com for details.
