Apollo workshop on shoulder surgery

The latest developments in the field of shoulder surgery, sub-specialties of orthopaedics, understanding of shoulder pathologies, their treatment and rehabilitation, came up for discussion at a day-long workshop on the subject at the Apollo Speciality Hospital in Chennai on February 25.

The knowledge-sharing course, organised by the corporate Apollo Hospitals Group, was conducted for the medical community from all over India to provide them updates on the latest developments in the field.

Dr Peter Campbell, a renowned shoulder surgeon from Perth in Western Australia, along with Dr Ashish Babhulkar (Pune) and Dr Vijay C Bose, orthopaedic surgeon of Apollo speciality hospitals, conducted the workshop.

A live demonstration of conventional open surgery and a modern key-hole arthroscopic shoulder surgery was held at the workshop.

Campbell, who had performed shoulder surgeries on many famous Australian sports personalities, said the workshop would serve as a platform for surgeons to understand and gain knowledge of the simple treatments available.

This is the first time that an Apollo shoulder surgery course has been organised. It is looking forward to make this course an annual one, where reputed surgeons from across the world could meet and share knowledge on this sub-specialty of orthopaedics.

Pioneers in the health care segment, Apollo Hospitals Group has earned a reputation of providing international standards in medical care at an affordable cost. And over the years. The group has made it possible through a series of knowledge-sharing programmes being conducted for the medical community to keep them up-to-date with the latest developments in their respective specializations.

Dr Peter Campbell said, "The workshop will serve as a platform for surgeons to understand and gain knowledge of the simple treatments available for shoulder problems. Apollo Hospitals' initiative to bring together orthopedics, physiotherapists and surgeons from various parts of India for the shoulder surgery course helps address common issues and provide comprehensive solutions to them."

Dr Vijay C Bose, consultant, orthopaedics surgeon (shoulder surgeon), Apollo Speciality Hospitals, Chennai, said, "Rapid strides have been made in the understanding and treatment of shoulder disorders along with innumerable product developments, worldwide. This course will provide an opportunity to the surgeons to update themselves with these developments and interact with renowned surgeons for any specific queries."
