Dr Batra's 2nd clinic in Chennai
The modem and well-designed clinic will be manned by experienced doctors and well-trained staff under the overall supervision of Dr Shalini Almeida. The first clinic in Chennai opened in December 2002, and has successfully treated around 4,000 patients to date and has seen a growth of approximately 300 per cent over last year.

Dr Mukesh Batra said, "Acceptance of homeopathy is growing worldwide and India is no exception. The market is growing at a rate of around 25 per cent year on year. It is expected to cross the Rs 1,000 crore mark in a few years. We have been growing exponentially and are poised to cross the 25 clinics mark this year itself. This second clinic is testimonial to the fact that in just under two years, we have felt the need for one more clinic to cater to the health care needs of the people of Chennai." Commenting on some key health issues in Chennai, Dr Batra said, "Estimates suggest that globally nearly 1.5 billion people lack safe drinking water and that at least 5 million deaths per year can be attributed to water-borne diseases the world over. Due to the severe shortage of water that Chennai has been experiencing, the incidence of water-borne diseases has reached alarming proportions. In addition, allergies and skin diseases are also on the rise."

Dr Batra pointed out that in the last financial year (April 03-March 04), DBPHCL registered an overall growth of approximately 70 per cent. The total number of patients visiting DBPHCL is over 3 lakh per year. Around 30,000 new patients visit the clinics every year. DBPHCL also plans to set up a clinic in London. The homeopathy market in India today is worth around Rs 630 crore, growing at roughly 25 per cent year on year and is expected to cross the Rs 1,000 crore mark by 2010. This growth rate over the last few years is twice the growth rate of the Indian pharmaceutical industry. It is estimated that in India over 100 million people have used Homeopathy. Homeopathy is globally growing at a rate of 7-15 per cent annually. More and more people are becoming aware about the adverse effects of chemical drugs and the escalating costs of conventional healthcare, he said.
