Cholayil launches Sanjeevanam

The Cholayil Group, makers of Medimix and one of the leading lights of Ayurveda in Kerala, launched 'Sanjeevanam', their first-of-its-kind holistic wellness centre in Chennai July 5. Eminent singer K J Yesudas inaugurated the spacious, aesthetically designed Sanjeevanam complex at Mogappair.

Sanjeevanam combines the powerful principles of Ayurveda, naturopathy and yoga and, using the latest scientific diagnostic techniques, treats specific ailments and provides a "wide range of holistic therapies", said A V Anoop, director of the Cholayil Group, shortly after the inauguration. "In our day and age, when fast living and high stress contribute so much to a whole variety of ailments, it is important to rediscover our completely natural traditional remedies," says Anoop.

"And who better to do that than Cholayil? With our history of Ayurvedic excellence, we will bring to Sanjeevanam practices that will rejuvenate body, mind and soul."

Sanjeevanam consists of five independent entities that mesh together to provide a holistic wellness experience. Punarjanee, the therapeutic centre, uses Ayurveda and naturopathy to assign fitness regimens, diets, massages and other therapeutic techniques with modem labs and well-equipped in-patient facilities. Rejuvenation from a stress-filled urban life is also possible at the Sanjeevanam Retreat Centre at Vengal - a spacious farmland area extending to more than 120 acres of greenery (to open within six months). Kadalivanam, a natural health restaurant, serves up rigorously designed and balanced meals, based on the principles of naturopathy, with the freshest of ingredients. The food is cooked without the use of any artificial colouring, flavour, or preservative agents, in bronze, copper or earthenware. Kadalivanam also houses a natural products store and a herbal juice centre.

Maya, the Medimix Academy of Yoga, (the only yoga centre in Chennai affiliated to SVYASA) offers therapeutic yoga for specific ailments, with separate courses for women, under the guidance of a naturopathy doctor. Triveni is Sanjeevanam's air-conditioned multi-purpose hall, capable of seating 50 people for functions, seminars or get-togethers. Srushtee keeps alive India's rich and flourishing base of paintings and crafts. There is a talent-promotion centre to tap the latent talent within youngsters, under renowned muralist and painter Azhikode. These youngsters can utilise this platform to display and sell their natural products, Anoop pointed out.

Cholayil plans to open 10 more Sanjeevanam centres in the country, including Visakhapatnam, Bangalore, Ernakulam and Delhi, Anoop said, adding that a centre was also proposed in London.

The Chennai complex had cost Rs 2.5 crore, he said. The other centres would come up in phases over the next three years.

The Sanjeevanam Retreat Centre would come up at Vengal, where the company already has 120 acres of farm land. It runs a factory at Mevalurkuppam, near Poonamalee, on the outskirts of Chennai, where the medicines required for the project, including kashayams, arishtams and various oils are being prepared.

The Sanjeevanam massage would not be a costly affair and would be in the affordable range of around Rs 300 per head, including oils, Anoop said. The company's turnover is around Rs 200 crore, he added.
