Sahaja Yoga

Discover the peace within

In these modern times, our daily life is often filled with stress, tension, fear and dissatisfaction in spite of stupendous technological developments witnessed during the last two decades, in particular. In this tumultuous time, slowly, the consciousness of spirituality and human awareness is emerging.

Spirituality means the ‘knowledge of the spirit’. Shri Nirmala Devi - founder of Sahaja Yoga - says, “You cannot pay for your self-realisation. How much did we pay for this Mother Earth for giving these things?” Spirituality is not an outward movement but is the movement that lies deep within us.

Ancient scriptures in different parts of the world had prophesised that the time will come when normal householders can feel the peace of divine love. Now, the time has come to realise this: in the new era called Satya Yuga in which human beings who are real seekers of truth can achieve self-realisation (atma sakshatkar). This en masse realisation process was discovered by Mataji Shri Nirmala Devi in 1970 and this movement she called “Sahaja Yoga”.

‘Saha’ means ‘with us’ and ‘ja’ means ‘born’. The name Sahaja Yoga clearly explains that union of our ‘Atma’ with primordial power ‘Paramatma’ happens through energy which is born within us, called Kundalini. Kundalini is a female primordial power residing at the base of our spinal cord. Greeks called this bone as sacrum bone which means ‘sacred bone’. Ancient scriptures had prophesised that in Kali Yuga this Kundalini can be awakened en masse by a female divine power. This Kundalini gets awakened in the presence of Shri Mataji or Her photograph.

In every human being, there are seven main chakras (plexus) and three main nadis (nervous systems) which are the energy centres where complete manifestation of our physical and emotional behaviour takes place. Because of our attitudes and lifestyle, we have created imbalances in these chakras and nadis, which reflect as problems that may be psychosomatic or emotional.

The two nadis or channels - Ida and Pingala (left and right sympathetic nervous system respectively) - are the storage of our past and future, The third nadi, Sushumna (parasympathetic nervous system) is the central channel where evolution takes place and establishes balance. When this Kundalini gets awakened through Sushumna Nadi, it causes complete balance in the working of our chakras and takes us into the state of thoughtless awareness, which is called ‘meditation’.

For instance, as per Sahaja Yoga, the first chakra enhances our ability to be ‘child like’, the second enhances creativity/aesthetics, the third inculcates a feeling of satisfaction, the fourth helps you control anger, the fifth improves your communication skills so that you do not offend others, the sixth enables you to forgive, while the seventh, the crown chakra, allows you to integrate all these qualities so that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

In Sahaja Yoga, this process is natural, spontaneous and happens effortlessly.

Shri Mataji says, “If a person wants to have peace in mind and unity of mankind, practising Sahaja Yoga is the only way out.”

Sahaja Yoga is being practised by thousands and thousands of people from around 100 countries. This helps them lead a balanced life in this modern world. Also, there are lots of successful researches to make intellectuals feel that there is power that works beyond the mind and prove that it’s not a blind faith but an experienced, enlightened faith.

Sahaja Yoga can be practised by going to any of the Sahaja Yoga meditation centres held every week. This knowledge of the divine is absolutely free.
