Barista Espresso Bar
What: Coffee, sandwiches, etc.
Where: G N Chetty Road, Nungambakkam High Road, Khader Nawaz Khan Road
I was a bit sad when
Coffee Day brought its shutters down on the G N Chetty Road outlet 'coz that was one good place to hang out and have coffee in T Nagar. A
Samsung showroom soon replaced it and thankfully a Barista also opened up. Anyway, the review on them has been long pending so I decided to hit the venue.
The new Barista is decked in warm shades of orange and green. Checking out the menu I thought this could be a lovely place to lounge on a rainy day, have some
coffee, hang out with friends or maybe use the time to spend with yourself.
I found it to be a good place to write. The din of the evening traffic on G N Chetty Road was replaced by some good music at a pleasing level. Of course, the miming TV, which is there at every coffee shop, was not missing here. I don't understand the concept though.
I ordered a Ginger Fizz (Rs 35) and an
Ice Cream Soda (Rs 35). Funny combo you might think, but I had never had an ice cream soda and decided to try it out. Yumm! A sandwich went along. The menu has a lot of new additions like the Ginger Fizz, Frozen Coffee, Masala Tea, Café Caramel, Smoothie Duets, which is fruit whip with litchi and strawberry or mango and strawberry. Some of the usual coffees on the menu now come at a reduced price.
Frankly, I had not liked the 'food' at Barista earlier as I felt it to be pretty sub-standard. The first time I went to the Barista on Khader Nawaz Khan Road, the Granita and the cake, which I chose to order, were very close to bad. So, obviously, I didn't feel like checking them out again. But now that they seemed to have a new look, I decided to give them another try to see if they had revamped the menu as well. And, luckily for me, they had!
The Barista also now has a franchise of the Corner Bookstore where you could browse/buy some good books.
On the same floor as Barista, there is also a newly opened health food chain called
Aiwo.
Sounded exciting... and coming up next week is the review on AIWO J
