Wondrous Baby

Ramesh.N [1973-BTME]

(Dear Reader: This poem was written in 1984, when my first child, a daughter, was born. Trust you would also have had similar experiences as a parent)

The day you were born was joy to my soul;
In every action, you live life as a whole.

When you smile, you light up my day;
When you giggle, it's time for play.

When you crawl, I look out for power points;
When you finally sleep, there are aches in joints.

When you sleep, you have a dream to tell;
When you talk , you hold me in a spell.

Just to think of you as God's creation;
Makes me sacrifice in dedication.

The light in your eyes is a mischievous thing;
Just to see that, I could dance and sing.

The dimples and gurgles that are very much you;
Make a weary day bright, make me anew.

Your first words and sit-ups are a delight;
But the mess you create is quite a sight.

You're a bundle of joy, an angel to me;
I'd like you to be baby-like till eternity.
