Message from President, IITMAA

By V.Varadarajan [1966-BTME]

Dear Fellow Alumni,

VaradarajanFirst of all, let me take this opportunity to thank the 330 odd souls who voted, from amongst the 10,000 who registered, out of the 30,000 alumni. Compared to our educated elite, the participation by the people of Tamil nadu is 70% of the registered voter. I hope by the time our term ends, with your help, we will increase both our voting numbers and our registered alumni to reflect a better representation.

The following are the regular Alumni activities this year also:

  • Adieu and welcome function of the final year students
  • Arranging visits of school children to showcase IIT facility
  • Reunions starting from silver, during the last week of December
  • AGM in July/August period

With your participation and support, we propose to add the following activities :

  • Formation of an Alumni Relief Fund to take care of emergency needs of alumni and their family
  • Counselling new entrants at the time of joining the institute
  • Counselling final year students through out the final year regarding career options
  • Reunions in the first year, and the 5th, 10th, 15th and 20th years after graduation
  • Founding of more chapters where 10 or more Alumni are interested in networking regularly

I request that all of you who are interested in making a vibrant association to actively participate, either by voicing your opinion in the IITMAA-discussion group where about 800 alumni are listed or in the yahoo groups (year wise, hostel wise, location wise or graduating class-wise) that have been formed to better network with peer groups.

To make all this possible our website is being revamped and we are available for discussion in the virtual world 24 X 7. Our office on campus is now open 365 days during working hours.

We hope you take this opportunity to initiate any activity that interests you and gather more alumni to our association.
