Message from President, IITMAANA

Dear fellow alumni,

Varadarajan2008 is the Golden Jubilee year of IIT Madras and the Institute launched a series of events on campus to celebrate the various achievements over the last 50 years.

We ended the year with a bang for IITM alumni because of the PanIIT Global Conference that was successfully conducted for the fist time on the IITM campus on December 19-21 with attendance exceeding 3000 plus alumni, faculty, and students from all campuses. The conference was inaugurated by the Prime Minister of India and the program was rich in content with renowned speakers and a variety of topics were addressed. There was a research symposium, an expo, a business plan conclave, a design competition, family programs and world class entertainment. Many alumni stayed on campus in one of the students hostels and ate in one of the student canteens. All in all it was fantastic.

2009 is a continuation of the Golden Jubilee celebrations with additional events planned and the launch of the IITM Growth Fund for Rs. 100 crores.

We continue to face challenges as an organization that has low participation from alumni in all its various activities at the local chapter level and poor coordination among the dozen chapters spread throughout the United States resulting in alumni apathy, listless interaction with the Institute and a total lack of motivation for fundraising.

Despite these challenges, the MAANA team is enthusiastically working closely with the newly elected MAA team and Prof. Nagarajan and the OAA staff to integrate the new website and databases to enhance alumni engagement with the alma mater.

Our ultimate goal is better faculty recruitment, increased sponsored research, launching of the IITM Research Park, facilitation of student participation in symposiums through travel grants and fundraising to meet the IITM Growth Fund imperatives.

With warm regards,

Seshan Rammohan—BTME 1968
President IITMAANA
