Steal
Director: Gerard Pires
Cast: Stephen Dorff, Natasha, Henstridge, Bruce Payne, Steven Berkoff.
Three guys and a girl. Slim, Otis, Frank and Alex. They are experts at stealing money from banks and escaping even with the odds are heavily stacked against them. As the cops chase them in cars and helicopters, the gang manage to hoodwink them as they change cars midway, glide away speedily on roller - blades, and throw red herrings on the way. But one of their heists backfire on them as they accidentally steal money belonging to the mob. Slim and Alex make a cosy twosome,
till attractive Karen enters Slim's life. Karen is an undercover cop, out to nab the culprits behind the heists. Matters worsen when the mob sets a hired Killer after them, and a corrupt police chief blackmails them into doing one more 'steal' for him. But the gang is made of sterner stuff, and though they lose Alex, they manage to leave the place with their booty, leaving enough evidence to convict the cop.
The film may lack high-tech gimmicks and special effects that are so much a part of films these days. But it has a fairly sensibly crafted script, a simple narrative style. The performances may be nothing to talk of, but it's time-pass for those who like speedy action and stunts.
