"Trust Everyone. Just don't trust the devil in them!", says seasonal safe-cracker John (Sutherland) to his younger companion Charlie, before the duo with their gang of professional thieves, each an expert in his own field, pull off a daring heist in Venice, and walk off with gold bullion worth millions of dollars. John's words comes back to him, when one of their gang turns a double crosser, having made his own plan to have all the gold for himself. In the shoot out, John is killed, the rest are presumed dead. A year later Charlie (Wahlberg) who has planned his vendetta, reassembles his gang, recruits some new ones and plans his modus operandi to get back the gold. Also joining is John's daughter Stella (Charlize),to avenge her father's murder.
A remake of a 1969 film with the same title , the former version had Michael Caine in the lead. The new version is worth watching, for it's savvy presentation of the plan, the execution, and the get away of the gang after they steal, escape an ambush from one of their own, turn the tables on the double crosser, and thwart the latter's well laid plan of fleeing with the booty. The action, beginning from the canals of Venice, escape, to the final scenes where the gang manipulate the city's traffic control system, speed away in minis through traffic jams and with a helicopter chasing them, across railway track seconds before the train comes, and luring the fleeing truck with it's gold to a pre-destined spot are some of the well choreographed action scenes, that makes the movie worth a watch.
