Mona Lisa Smile
Director: Mike Newell
Cast: Julia Roberts, Maggie Gyllen Haal, Kirsten Dunst, Dominic West
It's set in the
1950 and centers on the all-woman Wellesley College, with some of the brightest students in the country as
its alumni. Enters into this scenario, Katherine Watson (Julia Roberts) from California as
it's new arts teacher. With ideas different from the ones the students have conformed to, Katherine encourages them to think independently,
ruffling some feathers on the way. Katherine soon finds her own life taking a different course.
Not delving too deep into the conservative England of the
1950, the film makes no impact with its cliched, predictable situations and characters. For fans of Julia Roberts too, there is not much here, the actress watchable only when she flashes one of those famous smiles of hers!
