Gothika
Director: Mathiew Kassovitz
Cast: Halle Berry, Robert Downey Jr., John Carroll lynch, Penelope Cruz.
Oscar winner Halle Berry plays psychiatrist Miranda Grey, who finds herself getting a taste of what her patient Chloe (Cruz) went through, when she finds herself on the other side of the fence. Miranda had passed off incidents related by Chloe as ramblings of an unstable mind.
A terrified Chloe had told her that she was being tortured by satanic forces and that Miranda was next in the list. After a stormy night encounter with a mysterious girl, Miranda finds herself confined as a patient at the psychiatrist ward, and the main suspect in the brutal killing of a husband she loved.
Accused of a crime she doesn't remember committing, disbelieved by her own colleagues like Dr Pete (Robert Downey Jr.), Miranda has to fight with time to get to the truth.
This supernatural thriller, scary at times, has a bit of Shyamalan's 'Sixth Sense' (spirits reaching out to people), and 'Kiss the Girls' (the 'Not Alone' part). A film that lovers of the genre can take a look at.
