Courtship, in Sanjay Gupta's Khauff, is something different. Murdering your lover's best friend and killing a friend of your own in cold blood by running the car he is in over a cliff, while the object of your affection is watching.
He moves on to threatening his loved one with the death of her teenaged
sister. He stalks her, and, to top it all, tries to drive her away from her home.
Neha (Manisha Koirala) is an airhostess, who witnesses the murder of a senior police inspector (Mukesh Khanna) committed by Samrat Singhania (Parmeet Sethi). Samrat wants to protect and encourage the political aspirations of his criminally inclined father (Suresh Oberoi).
An ideal scenario for Babu (Sanjay Dutt), to enter. He is a contract killer who has been hired to 'persuade' Neha -- the only witness to the murder and the woman who can send Samrat to jail -- to change her testimony.
The honest cop (Sharad Kapoor), the widow of the slain inspector (Farida Jalal), a comical sidekick (Jaspal Bhatti), the friend of the bad guy (Tinu Anand). This makes up the cast of Khauff.
Of course, love does win in the end, after a number of turns and twists.
Sanjay Dutt is pretty powerful, but then, when is he not? He succumbs to the charms of Manisha Koirala, who is consistent in parts.
The songs, Saiya ne jo teri pakdi na bahiyan and Gori gori tu chali kahan are good.
The musical score is by Anu Malik. Daler Mehndi and Raveena Tandon put in special appearances.
