Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge

A typical David Dhawan movie with its normal routine of music, dance and drama. But inspite of all the efforts to make it interesting, "Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge" fails to entertain. Maybe its because the film has a frivolous streak running right through that just doesn't allow for the magic of cinema to take over. In the director's bid to entertain he has compromised on the engrossing appeal the script could have well afforded.

The movie bears shades of "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge" where the protagonists, Salman and Karisma in this case, meet on a holiday to Europe and lose their way. Left all alone to themselves they fight, make-up, sing a few songs and predictably fall in love, but decide in all earnestness to go the 'Hindustani' way of respecting the distance between them until they're united in holy matrimony. The second half of the movie is how Salman tries to get into the good books of Karisma's three eccentric uncles.

One has come to expect to see Karisma in every David Dhawan movie. She's busy brandishing her legs and swinging her hips to the oh-so-many songs. She's paid a good amount of attention to her clothes, make-up and hair style, otherwise she has nothing new to offer. Salman does his customary oft-repeated bare chest act. He, more or less, plays along with the script, emoting when necessary, crying when required and dancing when needed. Paresh Rawal, Anupam Kher and Om Puri as Karisma's three uncles do their bit, but their act just doesn't hold together.

Music for the film, composed by Himmesh Reshammiya, is nothing to write home about and doesn't fit into the script. Dialogues are run of the mill and direction, or the lack of it, can be seen right through the film. If you have three hours to kill and nowhere to go, try this movie.
