A laugh-a-minute, fun-filled bonanza packaged with humour, romance, song and dance, David Dhawan's 'Chal Mere Bhai' has all the nonsensical foibles of a triangular love story which somehow make sense after all. The film is devoid of the melodrama that normally accompanies such themes and swift-paced, never allowing a dull momemt to take over.
It is a tale of two brothers, Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt, who share a very friendly relationship on the surface but are bonded emotionally otherwise. When Karisma, a young naive girl, enters their lives, they both take a liking to her. Karisma reciprocates Salman's love but has been arranged to wed Sanjay. All's well that ends well when
Sanjay finds out the truth and very nonchalantly gives away his bride-to-be to his brother, while the rest of the family dance to the joyous union.
Karisma's character is well etched and she does justice to her role, but the scene-stealers are Salman and Sanjay who hold the film together. They have this good chemistry that shows inexplicably well on screen. It may also have something to do with the roles being written with them in mind. The rest of the cast, though they have very little to do, make their presence felt. Dialogues by Rumi Jaffrey are well written, especially in the scene where Salman goes to the temple praying for his ailing brother. Anand Milind's music is enjoyable and fits into the screenplay. A film that will leave you guffawing all the way.
