Hindi movies this year as well as last year seem to have concentrated on defining and re-defining love. In all their midst, Kundan Shah's 'Hum To Mohobbat Karega' is different to the extent that it combines, at least makes an honest attempt to combine humour and romance, with a little bit of suspense to round off the plot. But the loose screenplay proves its undoing.
Raju Bhatnagar (Bobby Deol) is a happy waiter in an Udipi Hotel, but gets himself into big trouble when he lies that he was witness to a murder to Geetha Kapoor (Karishma Kapoor), a crime reporter. He falls head over heels in love with her and she reciprocates by canoodling him whenever he develops cold feet about testifying. As they try to solve the murder, they stumble upon another, bigger crime and then begins a wild goose chase for a floppy that reveals all. The sub-plot includes the
mystery of Geetha Kapoor's missing brother. To make things more interesting there is Johny Lever playing Bobby's friend and caricaturised villains thrown in for good measure.
Karishma Kapoor and Bobby Deol try their hand at comedy, but are quite unsuccessful. Music by Anu Malik is average. But the biggest dissapointment is director Kundan Shah, who gave us entertainers like 'Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro' and 'Kabhie Ha Kabhie Na'. In a bid to commercialise the project, he has forgotten to tighten its loose ends. It is not so much that the movie is disappointing as that one is disappointed in
Kundan.
