The movie 'Rahul' is different in the sense it is not the routine boy-meets-girl but has a different subject. The story of 'Rahul' is quite touching with Yash Pathak playing the title role, as a young boy who lives with his father (Jatin Grewal). His parents divorce even as he is a baby and Yash has always been told that his mother never cared for him. He obviously assumes that it is true and starts to hate her.
However, the local grocery man decides to tell Rahul the truth about his mother (Neha), that she actually did love him
unconditionally and was heartbroken when she had to leave him. Emotionally confused, Rahul searches for his mother and eventually finds her. She is pleasantly surprised to see him and still loves her son very much, but she is also planning to get married again. In fact, even Rahul's dad is thinking about settling down with his girlfriend. Rahul falls ill one night after getting drenched in heavy rain. Hopes of his survival really diminish but his parents still keep quarrelling. In the end he gets saved and his parents are reunited.
Yash Pathak is actually a treat to watch and his portrayal of a troubled young boy is convincing. Neha is average, and although she can handle her role does not do anything different to her character. Jatin Grewal looks lost in front of the camera. The only positive aspect of the movie is the story outline and the performance of young Yash Pathak. The music by Anu Malik is slow and disappointing.
