Tera Mera Saath Rahen

Director: Mahesh Manjrekar
Cast: Ajay Devgan, Sonali Bendre, Namrata Shirodkar, Dushyant Wagh, Shivaji Satam, Reema Lagoo

'Tera Mera Saath Rahen', the latest offering from talented director Mahesh Manjrekar, best known for his numerous storytelling in the form of Vaastav, Nidaan, Jis Desh Mein Ganga Rehata Hai and Astitva, sees him join forces with actor Ajay Devgan for the first time. His two favourite actresses Namrata Shirodkar and Sonali Bendre make a repeat appearance.

The movie is about an extremely emotional saga that enters the life of Raj Dixit (Ajay Devgan), a simple middle class man, living in a simple and equally middle-class community of cheerful and extremely helpful neighbours the Guptas (Shivaji Satam and Reema Lagoo) among others. Raj is an extremely outspoken individual honest in all his endeavours and his relationships, including the one he shares with the lively Madhuri (Sonali Bendre), the love interest in his life.

However, Raj is fully aware that his relationship with Madhuri cannot overcome the other battles that dominate his life, the biggest of them being the upbringing and parenting of his younger brother Rahul (Dushyant Wagh), a mentally challenged boy. The two brothers share an exceptional bond of communication and selfless love, one that can withstand the toughest trials.

The film is larger-than-life with some superb performances by the entire cast. Ajay Devgan plays the role of the responsible and anguished elder brother with finesse, doing complete justice to his character. Sonali Bendre does well and Namrata Shirodkar blends out a sincere performance. The film also has a strong supporting cast in the form of Shivaji Satam and Reema Lagoo, who carry the burden of the comic moments on their capable shoulders with elegance. Young Dushyant Wagh takes the cake with his ineradicable performance as the handicapped sibling. Director Mahesh Manjrekar deserves a pat on the back for bringing forth a fresh new course in filmmaking, without breaking too many rules.
