Kranti

Starring:
Bobby Deol .... ACP Abhay Pratap Singh
Amisha Patel .... Sanjana Roy
Vinod Khanna .... Awadhesh Pratap Singh
Kabir Bedi .... Rana Pratap

Kranti tells the story of a father and son, both honest police officers, who have the same goals but believe in entirely different principles. Awadesh Pratap Singh (Vinod Khanna), Commissioner of Police, believes in living his life according to certain principles that have been laid down in the past and have never been changed since. ACP Abhay Pratap Singh (Bobby Deol), is the able son of an able father. He lives life on his own terms and firmly believes that the laws written earlier were good for that time, but have to be modified in the current scenario. He is fighting a lone battle to bring about a revolution in changing the law. Abhay has a girlfriend, Sanjana Roy (Amisha Patel) who has just returned from abroad and is writing a thesis on the Mumbai Police.

Trouble comes in the form of a wealthy businessman Rana Pratap (Kabir Bedi), who will do anything to bring unrest and harm to the people of India. He has no principles for reaching his goal and will do so at any cost. When he realizes that he is being troubled by this young and daring ACP, he uses Awadesh and gets ACP Abhay jailed for offences which he has never even committed. Abhay's imprisonment shatters the family, especially his mother (Rati Agnihotri) who cannot believe that her son could commit such a crime. The father who is convinced that his son has become a criminal refuses to help, but his wife pressurises him to bail Abhay out.

Abhay's mission after his release from jail is only to prove to his father that he is being used by this influential man who is planning to create unrest in the country for his own benefit at the cost of innocent people. Abhay succeeds in proving a point to his father and a major calamity is averted just at the nick of time. Then follows the usual fight to defeat the evil. Abhay's father also sees Rana Pratap’s real face. He understands the son’s point of view and agrees to join him in the battle to root out evil.

Kabir Bedi makes a welcome comeback as the villain. He looks suave and dashing as ever and proves to be an extremely capable villain and probably the film’s most interesting character. Amisha Patel is absolutely pathetic in her role. One wonders why she signed this movie in the first place, for she has no scope at all to perform. Jatin-Lalit’s tunes are dull and the picturisation of shots are even duller. The background music of the movie is also loud and annoying. Nirmal Jain´s cinematography looks fresh in some places. The movie does boast of some clap-worthy dialogues by Sanjay Masoom, especially in the scenes between Bobby Deol and Kabir Bedi. Sadly, the film is one big disappointment and is nothing but old wine in a new bottle.
