‘Old wine in new bottle’.
The first directorial venture by Puneet Issar has a weak story; it has been told
several times. The hero is police officer, who has a widowed mother and a
beautiful sister. He has a Muslim friend and he likes a bar dancer (earlier, it
used to be tawaif). There are lot of villains, corrupt politicians, underworld
dons and also corrupt police officers.
The hero is a man of principles
and wants to wipe crime out of the city. He faces a lot of obstacles and his
family also faces problems. His sister is raped and so he finally kills all the
villains and emerges victorious. C’mon Bollywood, you need to rise above this.
Salman Khan is the saving grace
of the film. His superlative performance as ACP officer Arjun Ranawat will win
him a lot of awards.
After ‘Tere Naam’, Salman
Khan has come up with another high-quality performance and suits the role very
well. It can be said, it is one of the best performances of his career. His
presence will earn this film some collections, otherwise it would have been big
disaster.
As an actor, Salman Khan is
growing with each movie. His dialogue delivery in this movie will be watched by
his fans, and in a few scenes, he is simply excellent. The story hasn’t helped
him. After this film, he may get a lot of action films to do.
This is a Salman Khan movie.
So, if the movie succeeds, the credit will only go to him and if the movie
fails, the failure has to taken by Puneet Issar. Two of the songs in the second
half are unnecessary and there was no need for a heroine in the film.
Bollywood
filmmakers seem to be bereft of original ideas. They either remake a Hollywood
or south Indian film or simply recycle an old Hindi film. They need to make
films with new ideas. Audiences are not fools and they can’t be taken for
granted. The only advantage for the film, Salman Khan, is playing for the first
a serious cop and has given a very good performance and the movie completely
rests on his shoulders. Salman will only increase his fans and has nothing to
lose from the movie. Better luck for Puneet Issar next time and hope he comes up
with some original idea.
